Losing the level means losing all bonuses and rewards.
Normal, Hard, and Super Hard Levels cannot be skipped, however, challenge levels can only be played once. You earn twice the Stars while the Shooting Stars Offer is on. 
Upon completion, a level will grant, and other rewards based on difficulty, which are needed to restore the Mansion, Guest House, Calvadori's areas and the Film Studio. The higher the level, the more variations, and obstacles you will encounter. There is even a more difficult level called "super hard".
